With a highly competitive indulgent biscuit marketplace, standing out with the most delicious and appealing product imagery is important to grab consumers' attention. The challenge for Maryland Big & Chunky was to implement a new design but maintain a delicious looking biscuit, whilst moving from the more expensive gravure to the constraints of a cheaper flexo print process.
Alongside the rebrand of some existing Maryland Big & Chunky flavour variants, additional new flavour variants were introduced. These new flavours required extensive retouching across the product shots to create consistency in quality, look and feel when the range was displayed together. The process involved a knowledge of how to utilise a flexo press so that it can achieve a high-quality premium standard.
Retouching and artwork build was completed to achieve the same premium printed results as previously created by a gravure press but in the new flexo print process. This was supported by using precision calibration techniques and our GMG certified proofs to enable printers to achieve superior, predictable printing outcomes every time. The final printed results exceeded the expectations of both the creative and the client teams.
